The first thing to do in Puerto Vallarta is a walk along the Malecón. This broad sea wall promenade reveals the beauty of the old city. Art, music and food are all around you. Shops display vibrantly coloured textiles, artisans show off their fine detailed work while you make your way among the splendor of sculptures, architecture and the Pacific Ocean . Eventually you will come to the Marazul, an open air restaurant under a huge palapa (palm leaf roof). Here, there is a relaxed atmosphere. White tablecloths create casual elegance. A perfect ambiance to reflect on your day, take in the beauty and people watch the others strolling by as you sip margaritas and dine on great food. The daytime menu has the usual international favorites: club sandwich, barbeque chicken, caesar salad and hamburgers along with familiar Mexican burritos, quesadilla and nachos. But if you come at night, you will enjoy another level of cuisine. Candles on the tables and live music create a very romantic setting for the evening menu. Artful presentations reveal chef Luis's creative mind. Watermelon carpaccio with arugula makes a stunningly colourful plate. The sweet watermelon blends well with the nutty lettuce and soft Japanese soy-sesame dressing. Try a 6oz. sea scallop with a sesame crust, on a goat cheese roasted pepper ravioli. A creamy lobster bisque sauce connects all the flavors wonderfully. Argentinean flank steak is an amazingly tender cut served on a parmesan risotto, garnished with colourful coulis. This truly is a spot you will never forget. Look for The Marazul on the Malecón, in
Puerto Vallarta.
